Portals by Anthony James

December 12, 2019 by Luke Finch

"Icosahedrons – the geometric globes of twenty identical triangular facets – were a mathematical experiment in unity used by Plato to demonstrate an ideal compositional system of perfect symmetry in three dimensions.

In a twenty-first century gallery space, the glass, steel, and LED structures bring a rigid and gleaming tangibility to the abstraction of the numerical calculation of flawless coherence. The objects are compelling approximations, facsimiles of understanding and belief thousands of years old that come down to us on our own terms of modern metals and technological light."

The tallest AR installation in the world! The print was over 35 metres high and flooded with light from every direction; light can cause AR tracking issues. A matte finish was chosen for the printed surface and created optimal viewing areas at certain times of the day.

The History of Web Design →

August 05, 2019 by Luke Finch

Since its debut in 1990, the internet has seen over a billion web pages—but it wasn’t always sleek interfaces. In this visual tour through history, trace the very earliest examples of what we today take for granted, from the first website to use surround sound to the first ‘upload-your-face’ function and YouTube-like page.

true/false →

July 17, 2019 by Luke Finch

Onformative’s true/false is a kinetic sculpture composed of arrays of circular black metal segments set in mechanical columns. Interlocking and rotating around fluorescent light tubes. On or off, true or false. Some entities have the property of being committed to adopt either one of the two states and switch between them. This sculpture explores what lies in between these fundamental states in order to make change tangible.

Smart Cycle →

July 15, 2019 by Luke Finch

Hype Cycle is a series of futurist films exploring human-machine collaboration, combining performance and emerging technologies.

These human-machine interactions from Universal Everything are inspired by the Hype Cycle trend graphs produced by Gartner Research, a valiant attempt to predict future expectations and disillusionments as new technologies come to market. The first film in this series is Smart Matter. It builds on the studio’s past experiments with motion studies, imagining a new form of collaborative interface for improvised modelling. More Hype Cycle films coming soon. Expression Wall →

July 05, 2019 by Luke Finch

The Expression Wall is a playful surface that allows you to express yourself in many different ways. You can engage from a distance as your body movement triggers colorful animations. In expression mode, you can move abstract color around with your hands. In drawing mode, you are prompted with a question that you can answer in written or drawn form.

This unique touch surface was created with 100 procedurally generated slats of plexiglas which are backlit by LED light. The natural flex of the plexiglas provides a surprising and delightful surface for drawing.

The Expression Wall is an ongoing installation at Deloitte University gives attendees a way to express themselves. Each expression is stored in an ever growing gallery that reflects the moods, opinions and interests of D.U. attendees.

Nobuhiro Nakanish →

September 20, 2017 by Luke Finch

The passage of time affects everybody but rarely do we reflect on what this means. Japanese artist Nobuhiro Nakanishi created a collection of images taken over a period of time on subjects ranging from the natural world to mundane everyday events. These images are printed onto transparent film which are then arranged next to each other on their sides so that viewers can see through them. This creates a poetic effect of events unfolding in front of your eyes, albeit with spaces in between, inviting viewers to fill in the gaps with their imagination. An inspiringly beautiful and contemplative work of art.

Mikael Takacs →

September 18, 2017 by Luke Finch

The stunning works of Mikael Takacs. A marbler based in Sweden who uses pipettes to distribute acrylic paint across the canvas to create his subjects, which he then distorts by dragging the paint around using various tools, such as sticks and combs.

He combines the classic abstract expression of marbling with concrete figures. This results in intricate patterns that forms his subjects. Variations of this technique has been around for hundreds of years, but in spite of that, his pieces are often mistaken for digital art.
